Comrod Communication AS (“Comrod”), a leading provider of mission-critical communications solutions for defense and security customers, today announced the acquisition of TransOpto AS (“TransOpto”), a Norwegian company based in Kristiansand that specializes in high-speed optical bridges and wireless bridging of single mode fibers. The acquisition represents an important step in Comrod’s strategy to expand its communications portfolio through complementary technologies that address evolving operational requirements across modern defense networks.

As military forces invest in communications resilience and survivability in contested electromagnetic environments, optical communications technologies are becoming an important complement to traditional RF-based networks. TransOpto’s solutions provide high-capacity connectivity that can enhance network flexibility while supporting emerging requirements for low-signature communications with a reduced probability of detection.

The addition of TransOpto’s technology to Comrod’s existing portfolio of tactical antenna systems, mast systems, RF amplification, power supplies, and communications planning software will enable customers to build more resilient communications architectures for operations in increasingly contested and complex environments.

“The acquisition of TransOpto is a natural extension of Comrod’s strategy to provide increasingly capable and integrated communications solutions to our customers. By adding optical communications technology to our portfolio, we are expanding our ability to support resilient, high-capacity communications while providing customers with an additional option for operating in contested electromagnetic environments.”

— Ole Gunnar Fjelde, CEO of Comrod Communication AS

The acquisition further advances Comrod’s strategy of delivering integrated communications solutions across RF, optical communications, power, and supporting infrastructure. The acquisition has been completed, and financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Tau, Norway, Comrod is a leading international manufacturer of antennas, control systems, masts, amplifiers and power supplies for the defense and commercial markets. Comrod’s mission critical products underpin secure and resilient tactical communications on the battlefield. COMROD is also a key contributor to Europe’s critical infrastructure within the electricity utility segment, ensuring secure, reliable, and future-ready solutions for critical operations.
