Privacy Policy

This policy explains what greatreporter.com collects about the people who read it and write for it, why, and what your rights are. greatreporter.com is published by Videowire Limited, which is the data controller for this website and for videowire.co.uk. Questions about this policy go to editorial@greatreporter.com.

What we collect, and why

Reading the site. Reading greatreporter.com needs no account and no registration. The site is served through Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived connection logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time) to run and protect the service. We use those logs only in aggregate, to see which articles are read and to keep the site working. We do not sell or share them.

Submitting a story. When you file a story through our webform we collect your name, your email address, your organisation if you give one, the story itself, a note of where it has been published before, and any photograph you attach with its credit. We collect these because we cannot consider a story without knowing who wrote it and how to reach them. We keep submissions on Cloudflare's infrastructure, read them on the news desk, and use your email address to reply to you about your story. We do not add you to any list.

The human check. The submission form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated senders. Turnstile may examine signals from your browser to do that; it does not show you a puzzle and it does not build a profile of you.

Correspondence. If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as it is needed to deal with your enquiry and to keep a record of what was agreed.

What we do not do

We do not run advertising networks, tracking pixels or social-media trackers on greatreporter.com. The one advertisement on the site is a banner for our sister company Presswire; it loads from our own servers and reports nothing about you to anyone. We do not use analytics that follow you across other websites.

Cookies

greatreporter.com sets no cookies of its own for reading the site. Cloudflare may set a small number of cookies needed for security and for the human check on the submission form; they identify a session, not a person. If an article embeds a video from YouTube or Vimeo, that provider may set its own cookies when the video is played, under its own privacy policy.

Where your information is kept, and for how long

Submissions and the photographs attached to them are stored with Cloudflare, with storage located in Western Europe. Stories we publish are kept for as long as they are on the record. Stories we do not publish, and the personal details attached to them, are deleted within twelve months of the decision. Connection logs are kept by Cloudflare for a matter of days.

Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted where there is no reason for us to keep it, and to object to our use of it. To exercise any of these rights, email editorial@greatreporter.com. If you are not satisfied with our answer you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

greatreporter.com is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.
