Network Rail awards telent two telecoms framework contracts

telent, the technology services company, has been awarded two telecoms framework contracts by Network Rail covering its Western and South East Regions.

Under the framework contracts, telent will provide the telecoms equipment and services necessary to renew Network Rail’s operational railway communication networks and systems over the next 12-18 months.

The new contracts follow the award to telent in 2005 of a 5-year framework contract for the densely populated South East Region which saw the company’s Rail business install, commission and test a wide range of telecommunications equipment – from networks supporting signalling, to driver communications.

The Western Region, awarded to telent for the first time, includes London and covers a large area stretching from South Wales to Cornwall.

Steve Pears, General Manager of telent’s Rail business commented: “We pride ourselves on our proven track record in delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective services and systems on time and to budget. These new framework contracts give us the opportunity to continue to grow telent’s Rail Business and build on the work that we are already carrying out in the South of England and Wales.”

With annual revenues of over £350 million, telent has decades of experience in supplying a broad range of network and communications services in the UK and Germany.

Today, the privately-held company employs over 2,500 people and has one of the largest engineering field forces in the UK. Customers include: Airwave, BT, Deutsche Bahn, EADS, Merseyside Fire & Rescue, the Metropolitan Police, National Express, Network Rail, Stagecoach, Tube Lines, and the UK Highways Agency.
