James Brawley of Clemson, S.C. will be the Principal Consultant for its large-scale, audio-system design projects targeting educational, entertainment, and professional sports venues.
“Having worked with Jim on many projects in the past, we are thrilled to have him join Stage Front in a full-time capacity. He is an exceptional design consultant and mentor to our expanding design department, and his guidance is crucial to meeting the growth goals we’ve set for the auditorium and stadium markets,” stated Steve Stephens, president of Stage Front.
Brawley will focus on developing design and installation opportunities in the high school auditorium market. Promoting Stage Front’s consulting services, he will work with architects, engineers, contractors, education administrators, and end-users to implement integrated technical systems featuring easy-to-operate interfaces for non-technical staff.
His secondary concentration will be initiating and expanding strategic relationships in the large arena and stadium market. Providing design-build support for staff in Stage Front’s five U.S. offices, Brawley will assist systems consultants with presentations and value engineering, conduct in-house training sessions for installers, and provide a variety of other engineering and production services and solutions.
A seasoned professional in the audio and production technology realm, Brawley has been designing sound system and room acoustics for all types of venues over the past 38 years, with clients ranging from architects and owners to manufacturers and system contractors. He first began working with Stage Front on a contractual basis in 2000, when his company, James S. Brawley & Associates, Inc., was retained for audio system design and staff development consultation services. Brawley has since collaborated with Stage Front on numerous successful design-build projects.
Prior to establishing Brawley & Associates in 1981, he served as a professional products applications engineer for JBL Professional Products, Inc., where he worked with several well-known experts in the field of acoustics and loudspeaker system design including John Eargle, D.B. Keele, and George Augspurger. He was responsible for many special design projects for JBL, including the central loudspeaker cluster for the Hollywood Bowl, the development of an automatic mixing system, and the format for a new line of loudspeaker systems for motion picture theaters.
Brawley has worked on many varied projects including worship spaces, amphitheaters, courtrooms, auditoriums, motion picture theaters, arenas, stadiums, drama theaters, production studios, conference centers, and educational facilities. Special projects have included large rock concert systems for artists such as Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, the Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, and Reba McIntyre. In 1987, he was selected to design a sound system to cover 500,000 listeners for the Papal Mass in San Antonio, Tex.
Brawley holds a B.S. in physics from Clemson University in Clemson, S.C., and completed graduate studies in acoustics at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. His professional affiliations include the Audio Engineering Society Acoustical Society of America and the National Council of Acoustical Consultants.
