telent enhances command, control and communications for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) have awarded telent a contract for the provision of a SEED Command & Control Mobilising System and Cyfas Integrated Communications Control System.

At the heart of the service’s 999 operation, the system will enable secure, effective dispatch of firefighters and resources to emergencies throughout the county, leveraging the latest technology for automated vehicle location to give dynamic, real-time mobilisation.

telent (www.telent.com) will provide end-to-end services from delivery and integration during the project phase through to ongoing critical support for systems, Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) and station-end equipment.

The contract, issued via HWFRS’s prime contractor, Computacenter, is the first of its kind to be let in England since the government announced its decision to cancel the national FiReControl project which would have provided similar functionality.

“Technology has a significant impact on an FRS’s ability to provide effective response to incidents whilst controlling cost and managing risk,” commented Jason Spring, Sales Director, Managed Solutions. “We’re very proud to be supporting Hereford & Worcester at a time when many FRSs are considering their options post-FiReControl”.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates said: “We are delighted to be working with telent as the new technology will enable us to have more precise information available to us, which in turn will help to improve our emergency response.”

With annual revenues of over £300 million, telent has decades of experience in supplying a broad range of network and communications services. Today, the privately-held company employs approximately 2,000 people and has an engineering field force that covers the entire UK. Customers include: Airwave, BT, Merseyside Fire & Rescue, the Metropolitan Police, National Express, Network Rail, Stagecoach, Tube Lines, and the UK Highways Agency.
