American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been selected as an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026, the annual initiative that highlights the essential role of engineering and engineers in addressing global challenges.
As a leader in higher education—particularly in engineering—AUS equips its graduates with the knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to succeed in an increasingly globalised world and to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.
“Being an official partner for WED 2026 allows AUS to contribute to a global conversation that starts with education,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of the AUS College of Engineering. “Our focus on Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education, is reflected in a rigorous, hands-on engineering education, strengthened by industry engagement and impactful projects that solve real-world challenges. This prepares our graduates to lead innovation responsibly and deliver sustainable solutions across sectors and communities.”

WED launched in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 4 March 2026, marking the start of a year-long campaign of events, films, features and news. This year’s theme is “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation.”
An official International Day proclaimed by UNESCO, WED is operated by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), the global body representing members from more than 100 countries and over 30 million engineers worldwide.
WED 2026 provides governments, UN-associated organisations, policymakers, educators and leaders in the public and private sectors with an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of engineering. All campaign content will be produced by SJH Studios—the official media partner and broadcaster for WED—and hosted on the official WED website at www.worldengineeringday.net.
