New online library in sustainability and corporate responsibility launched

Specialist sustainability publishers Greenleaf Publishing and GSE Research have launched an online collection of books and journals in sustainability, corporate responsibility and related fields.

Containing almost 400 volumes, the Sustainable Organization Library (SOL) gives instant access to leading international authors, commentators and researchers on sustainability; case studies on best practice from international organizations; and evidence-based research for practitioners and scholars. The books and journals in SOL have never previously been available as a collection, and many have never been available at all digitally.

The Sustainable Organization Library also includes subscriptions to Greenleaf’s Journal of Corporate Citizenship, Business Peace and Sustainable Development, and Greener Management International journals, and draws on material from a number of international publishing partners.

Greenleaf Director John Peters said: “There has never been a more pressing need to bring sustainability into business practice and management education. This can’t be seen as ‘nice to do’ any more – it’s ‘must do’. As the major remaining independent specialist in this field, we see this as the right time for us to be working with some like-minded partners, and to make this available as a digital library.”

SOL is available to buy outright, or on an annual subscription, and is hosted on the well-established IngentaConnect platform, used in around 25,000 universities and institutions worldwide. It operates under the simple and straightforward SERU (Shared e-Resource Understanding) licence created by NISO, the US National Standards Institute, with no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. This makes SOL available to all members of an organization, on any device.

In the SOL collection, each chapter or paper– more than 5,000 – is tagged individually, so users can easily find research that’s relevant to them, as well as browse the unparalleled collection of book titles.

Professor Simon Mercado, Associate Dean at Nottingham Business School commented: “This is a welcome innovation for all of us committed to responsible leadership values and sustainability-related research and education.”

Greenleaf Publishing was launched 21 years ago following the first Rio Earth Summit in 1992 and now has representation in the USA and India, as well as publishing offices in Leeds and Sheffield, UK. Greenleaf and GSE have worked over the years with organizations including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Institute of Directors India, Amnesty International, Oxfam, and a number of national governments.
