Andrew Bain is a dentist who works at Kings Road Dental Clinic – behind the famous pink front door 295 Kings Road. However this unusual dentist is not only dedicated to helping his patients smile, but has pledged to use his talents to raise money for charity.
The music explores matters of the heart through song and includes opera and musical theatre favourites from La Boheme, Tosca, Rigoletto, West Side Story and many others. You may enjoy the performances so much that you learn how to sing and emulate Andrew!
Outside dentistry, Andrew also worked as a professional singer in both West End musicals and Opera. His singing career took him all over the world. In 2008 he signed a record deal with SonyBMG and was marketed as ‘The Singing Dentist’, performing live on GMTV, BBC Breakfast, on local and national radio stations and even on the main stage at Bestival (see below for full biography).
Last year Andrew raised over £6,000 for the charity in a single concert and now – with the support of Kings Road Dental Clinic (part of Harley Street Dental Group) and Sloane Stanley Estate – which owns and manages many of the properties in the area – he is bringing ‘Love, Loss and Passion’ to Chelsea.
Supported by Sloane Stanley Estate, The Love Loss and Passion concert will be staged on 5th September 2013 in Chelsea Old Town Hall on Kings Road at 7.30 pm. The concert features opera and musical theatre pieces sung by Andrew Bain and a guest soprano, accompanied by a 6-piece chamber orchestra led by Bernie Lafontaine. Bringing a smile to people in need
Two charities will receive the proceeds from the Love Loss and Passion concert including a local beneficiary, The Cheyne Charity of Children with Cerebral Palsy and JDRF – The Type 1 Diabetes Charity (for more information about these please see below).
Concert goers are able to buy food and drink from local suppliers who are donating their profits to the charities in addition to an auction – hosted by a celebrity auctioneer – to help raise vital funds for both causes supported by the concert. Prizes include tooth straightening from Invisalign and tooth whitening with Philips Zoom both of which will be carried out by dentist Andrew Bain.

Andrew Bain – Tenor
Andrew studied dentistry at Bristol University before embarking on a dual career as a dentist and as a professional singer, in opera, musical theatre and on the concert platform. He currently studies vocally in London with Jennie Caron.
His most recent opera credits are Don Jose in Carmen (Kings Head Theatre), The Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto (Opera Novella), Tamino in The Magic Flute (Opera Brava) and Edmondo in Manon Lescaut (Chelsea Opera Group).
Previous credits include, Lensky in Eugene Onegin (St John’s Smith Square), Joe in La Fancuilla del West (Grange Park), Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte (Opera by Definition), Pierre in The Wandering Scholar (St John’s Smith Square), Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus (Alternative Opera), Triquet in Eugene Onegin (Longborough Festival) and MacHeath in Beggars Opera (Cochrane Theatre)
His most recent musical theatre role was as Tony in West Side Story for Pimlico opera in Wandsworth Prison. Other shows include the UK tour of Les Miserables for Cameron Mackintosh, Whistle down the Wind for Bill Kenwright, Beauty and the Beast (Watermill Theatre) and City of Angels (Landor). He has also premiered the English version of a Norwegian one-man musical, Terje Vigen in San Francisco and on tour in Norway.
Other recent engagements include the tenor soloist in a Requiem Mass by Rowland Lee, at the St Petersburg Philharmonic concert hall, alongside internationally renowned Mezzo-Soprano, Sarah Connolly CBE. He has also performed his self-written one-man show, LANZA; a drama with music about the life of 1950’s tenor, Mario Lanza. It ran for a month at the King’s Head Theatre in Islington, and subsequently been staged at various venues around London.
In the concert and corporate arena, Andrew has performed at events all over the UK and all over the world including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Rome, Bergen, Istanbul, Marrakech and many others. He recently sang at the Royal Palace in Oslo for the King and Queen of Norway at their daughter’s 40th Birthday celebration attended by many European Royals. He has sung live on GMTV and even performed at Bestival on the Isle of Wight.
In 2008 Andrew signed a solo recording contract with SonyBMG and has recorded an album of hit songs such as ‘Chasing Cars’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ all in his own classical style.
The Cheyne Charity for children with Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy is a condition which affects large numbers of children and whilst treatment has advanced there is still no cure. Cerebral palsy is a children’s ailment where the brain is damaged. The brain is the body’s telephone exchange and if damaged some of the lines of life are permanently upset. It can be caused by a variety of reasons: the expectant mothers may contract German measles; a difficult labour, particularly where forceps may be the only method of delivery; or a father having the wrong blood group.
Cerebral palsy is also a condition where some disability is likely to be a lifelong burden, but if children between the ages of 1 to 5 years receive proper treatment, most will improve sufficiently to attend ordinary school with specialist help. In certain cases it is necessary to attend a specialist centre providing medical, nursery, educational, recreational and play facilities. It was this in mind that the Charity was established.
Although relatively small, the Cheyne Charity helps a number of children and their families to improve their lives – including the provision of essential equipment, which could not otherwise be afforded. It relies entirely upon voluntary support and is thrilled that Andrew Bain, through the sponsorship of Sloane Stanley and the King’s Road Dental Clinic, is staging this concert with a view to raising money to help with its work.
JDRF – The Type 1 Diabetes Charity
JDRF is the type 1 diabetes charity, improving lives until they find the cure. They are totally focused on type 1 diabetes, and are run by people with type 1, for people with type 1. JDRF funds research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. They provide information for children, adults and parents living with the condition, at all stages from diagnosis and beyond. Because they have people with type 1 diabetes at the heart of our organisation, they know that living with type 1 makes life just that bit tougher, and they think that people with type 1 don’t get a fair deal. That is why, as well as funding research, they also give a voice to people with type 1. They campaign for greater research funding and for access to the treatments and technologies to make your life easier today. They also work to differentiate type 1 from type 2 diabetes and provide information for all stages of living with type 1 – from diagnosis and beyond.
