Nicky gets local schools signing and singing

Nicky Maloney is an ambassador for sig2sing, a fundraising activity organised by the Deaf Health Charity SignHealth.  Schools, businesses, choirs and community groups take part, learning a specially written song with signs.  They will perform the song at the start of February and raise funds for the charity.

Nicky has been visiting local schools for some time, teaching pupils about sign language, so she was sure they would enjoy the event, “Children absolutely love learning to sign” she says “They pick it up so easily.”

Nicky hasn’t just been encouraging children to take part.  She’s also recruited West Midlands Fire Service to join in with some of the firemen taking part in a special video for sign2sing.

“It’s such a wonderful cause’ says Nicky “I’m really proud to be part of an event that makes a real difference to deaf lives and raises awareness of issues that affect deaf people.”

Sign2sing takes place between 1-7 February.  There’s still time to register to take part.  Go to www.sign2sing.org.uk/register
