London-based publishing house Square Up Media will launch the UK’s biggest circulating independent travel magazine in May.
Called Escapism, the magazine will be a free, mass-market travel title for urban Brits with one eye on the job and another on the next holiday, packed with expert advice, inspirational features and beautiful imagery. With a launch circulation of 105,000 copies, Escapism will reach more people than any other independent travel magazine in the country.
Escapism will feature leading travel writing and photography and cover a wide spectrum of budgets and locations, from short-haul breaks on a budget to luxury escapes in far-flung locations, via adventure, pampering and the world’s most vibrant cities.
Each monthly issue of Escapism will be complemented by an interactive tablet edition, featuring the best of the print magazine alongside a host of extras including photo galleries, videos and interactive features.
Square Up Media CEO, Tim Slee, explains the reasoning behind the launch:
“I’m proud to be making another exciting addition to the Square Up Media portfolio. We have huge ambitions for Escapism, as our launch circulation of 105,000 demonstrates, and we’re planning to have some great fun with the magazine. It’s been a slow time in media over the past four or five years, and now things seem to be on the up for the industry. It’s exciting to be launching a project like this in an arena we know very well.”
Escapism will be edited by Jon Hawkins, who joins the magazine from the position of deputy editor at Square Mile.
