ECO – low income homes tend to be eligible for support with heating and insulation through the energy company obligation. ECO began in 2013 and has been divided into 3 sections –
Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO)
Under such obligation, energy companies such as Firstcall Home Assist provide insulation and central heating upgrades to low income households (private rented or owners). The scheme is income based and evidence of benefits are critical for eligibility.
Carbon Emissions Reduction Obligation (CERO)
Energy saving companies give funding for insulation – CERO is an option to all households which qualify under certain conditions
Carbon Saving Communities Obligation (CSCO)
Aimed at people living in the poorest and most rural areas by income. Such obligation supports households in tenures.
Another important aspect of the ECO scheme is that it can be used in conjunction with some other Government initiatives in order to make households across Scotland more energy and cost efficient.
HEEPS (Cashback Scheme) – This government scheme is available for owner occupiers, private and social tenants and landlords with properties in council tax bands A to C. Such scheme allows a rebate of up to £5,800 when installing new boilers, insulation and secondary glazing.
