Abela Trains Services Egypt and Amisol Travel Egypt have joined forces to launch the Abela × Amisol Eclipse Express 2027, a collection of five specially designed rail journeys taking travellers through Egypt to Luxor for the Total Solar Eclipse of 2 August 2027.
When the sky above Luxor goes dark on 2 August 2027, travellers from around the world will gather in Egypt to witness one of the most extraordinary astronomical events of our generation.
And now, there is a new way to get there.

Abela Trains Services Egypt, Middle East Travel Alliance (META) and its Egyptian DMC partner, Amisol Travel Egypt, have joined forces to launch the Abela × Amisol Eclipse Express 2027 — a collection of five specially designed rail journeys combining the romance of overnight train travel with the wonders of Ancient Egypt and the unforgettable experience of standing in the path of a total solar eclipse.
The idea behind the Eclipse Express is simple:
Don’t fly over Egypt. Travel through it.
Rather than treating the journey to Luxor simply as transportation, the Eclipse Express makes the railway an essential part of the adventure.
Guests travel through the Nile Valley aboard Egypt’s sleeper trains, with private sleeping cabins, onboard hospitality and meal service, while selected programmes offer the opportunity to upgrade the experience with dining in the Club Car.
Sleep in Cairo.
Wake up in Upper Egypt.
Then continue by rail towards one of the greatest astronomical spectacles of the decade.
Five journeys. One destination: totality.
The Eclipse Express 2027 series features five different itineraries and durations, connecting some of Egypt’s greatest destinations, including Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, while selected programmes travel deeper into Middle Egypt, Sohag and Abydos.
The programmes have been designed to offer eclipse enthusiasts an experience that goes far beyond simply flying in, watching the eclipse and flying out again.
Between Egypt’s famous monuments lie agricultural landscapes, Nile communities, railway towns and archaeological treasures that many international visitors simply fly over without ever seeing.

On eclipse day, guests will come together for a specially organised Eclipse Festival in Luxor, featuring a dedicated viewing location, transportation, seating and shade, refreshments, a BBQ lunch, guest facilities, local assistance and professional eclipse support.
Then, the journey stops.
And everyone looks up.
For a few extraordinary minutes, daylight will fade as the Moon completely covers the Sun above the historic landscape of Ancient Egypt.
When railway experience meets destination expertise
Behind the Eclipse Express is a partnership bringing together railway operations, international travel development and decades of destination expertise in Egypt.
Abela Trains Services Egypt represents an important new chapter in Egypt’s overnight railway experience. In 2023, the company began managing and operating sleeper train services between Cairo and Upper Egypt following the handover from the National Sleeping Trains Company.
The 15-year management framework covers sleeper cars, Club Cars, and associated onboard catering and hospitality services. Abela already had extensive experience in railway catering before taking on the wider management and operation of Egypt’s sleeper trains.
Abela is owned by Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris, and its involvement in sleeper train management and operations forms part of Egypt’s broader drive to increase private-sector participation in transport services.
Middle East Travel Alliance (META) provides the international travel and commercial framework behind the project, working alongside its Egyptian DMC partner, Amisol Travel Egypt.
Amisol Travel brings decades of tourism experience and strong Scandinavian roots to the Eclipse Express. Its story began in Drammen, Norway, in 1999, with Egypt at the heart of its travel programmes from the beginning.
The company became one of the early Nordic tour operators specialising in holidays to Egypt before expanding its activities across Scandinavia and in Egypt.
Today, Amisol Travel Egypt operates as an Egyptian Destination Management Company (DMC), combining extensive local operational knowledge with the Scandinavian travel heritage behind the Amisol name. Over the years, the wider Amisol travel operation has served around one million travellers.
For Eclipse 2027, their complementary expertise comes together in one project:
