National Philanthropic Trust UK (NPT-UK) announced today it supports the Lord Mayor’s Giving Day (27 September 2016) and the international campaign “GivingTuesday” (29 November 2016). NPT-UK is an independent UK registered charity dedicated to providing philanthropic expertise to donors, financial institutions, foundations and charities through donor advised funds (DAFs; a type of charitable savings account).
John Canady, CEO of NPT-UK said: “We are delighted to be associated with such prestigious and valuable campaigns. A charity ourselves, we offer donor-advised funds to make it easier for individuals to manage their charitable giving over time. In the same spirit as City Giving Day and Giving Tuesday, we are dedicated to increasing the amount of money raised and made available for the good work of charities around the globe.
“Since our 2014 launch, we have attracted over £10m and helped over 20 donors establish UK-based donor advised funds. Our altruistic ambition is to help raise the profile of donor-advised funds as charitable vehicles in UK and Europe so that we can make it easier for people to give money to charities globally. We want to make sure everyone understands that you don’t have to be a millionaire to have a strategic and organised charitable vehicle.”
* Championed by the 688th Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Lord Mountevans, hundreds of businesses in the City are taking part by celebrating and promoting the fantastic work they have achieved, and continue to achieve, with the charities and communities they support. Giving Time, Supporting People is this year’s theme, with many companies choosing to volunteer or raise money/awareness for the charities that they care about including the Lord Mayor’s Appeal charities: JDRF and Sea Cadets.
* #GivingTuesday – following the huge retail sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this campaign offers an alternative to the shopping frenzy and encourages people to do good things for the charities and causes they care about. Last year #GivingTuesday broke a Guinness World Record for the most online donations in 24 hours, as people gave away £35 million to good causes globally. Online donations raised £6,000 a minute for UK charities with more than 1,400 charities and businesses and hundreds of thousands of people connecting with the movement.
