Thai Night at the American Film Market 2011, Thailand Comes to Hollywood

The American Film Market is being held from November 2 – 9, 2011 Santa Monica, California. The event will showcase Thailand as a premiere destination for Filmmakers.

Many major Hollywood studios consider Thailand a key location for shooting films to make the country become a regional center for the entertainment business because it offers high-quality products and services at relatively low cost.

Thai Night will be held on November 3rd, 2011 and be presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi and attended by Senior Thai Government Ministers, business leaders and members of the film and entertainment industry.

454 movies were filmed in Thailand in 2011 (January – August). Japanese productions topped the list filming in Thailand (86 productions), with Europe a close second (80) and India coming in third (76). Now Thailand is seeking to raise awareness of Thailandโ€™s uniqueness and diversity in terms of its vast array of film locations and to promote Thailand as a user-friendly environment for filmmakers from the Industryโ€™s leading location, Hollywood.

Each year, Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana has emphasized the strength of the Thai film industry. Thailand, a perfect location for shooting movies because of its natural beauty, cost benefits and high quality support services.

Thailand boasts highly qualified, skilled professionals able to assist and collaborate with filmmakers in all stages of movie production.

Thai Night at the AFM provides unique setting for people involved in the film and entertainment industry to come together and to find networking avenues through which to negotiate investment at the country level, corporate and individual level.

Besides the expectations to create international investment partnerships in the film and entertainment industry, the most important outcome of the Thai Night event is that it will lead to a continuing cultural exchange between Thailand and the international community.

Founded in 1981, the American Film Market (AFM) quickly became the premiere global marketplace where Hollywoodโ€™s decision-makers and trendsetters all gather under one roof. Unlike a film festival, the AFM is a marketplace where production and distribution deals are closed. In just eight days, more than $800 million in deals will be sealed โ€” on both completed films and those in every stage of development and production โ€” making AFM the must-attend industry event.

The Department of Export Promotion joins American Film Market to organize Thai Night AFM 2011 to foster the development of the Thai Film Industry.
