ImageAs Britain's Tim Henman crashes out of Wimbledon, a new star is causing a stir. UK tennis fans are now firmly pinning their hopes on Andy Murray for victory...

Spectators at Wimbledon have already witnessed Tim Henman’s shock second round exit.

For a decade, Henman had been Britain’s only realistic chance at success in the tournament, but as he walked off Centre Court with his head bowed in defeat, an 18-year-old, unranked Scottish player walked confidently onto Court One.

Andy Murray was largely unheard of prior to entering this year's Wimbledon tournament.

Yet he stormed through the first round, and would last longer than any other British competitor by beating a seeded player in straight sets, fixing himself a place in the third round.

Murray’s second round victory was all the sweeter due to the calibre of his opponent.

Czech Radek Stepanek was ranked 13th in the world going into the tournament, a sure-fire favourite against the Scottish youngster, who only three weeks ago was playing in the juniors.

Yet somehow Andy Murray managed to outclass the favourite from start to finish, beating him 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in less than two hours.

The half-empty stand that watched Murray walk onto the court soon filled with depressed Brits, disheartened by the exit of their hero Tim.

But Murray's sensational style soon had every spectator on the edge of their seats.

"Tim who?" fans asked aloud, as they drew Union Jacks over their English flags.
