3 May-World Press Freedom Day @The Frontline Club - 2006/05/02 10:52
Wednesday 3 May - 7.30pm World Press Freedom Day - Free Admission
According to the International News Safety Institute, as of 21 April, the number of journalists and media workers confirmed dead worldwide in 2006 stood at 29 - in Iraq alone, 119 dead since the start of the war, two thirds of them Iraqi freelances or media workers.
On World Press Freedom Day, we're asked to pay tribute to those journalists who have lost their lives reporting the news, 90% of whom were murdered or killed in their own countries.
This year, The Frontline Club brings together journalists from Iraq, Nepal, and Belarus: Waleed Ibrahim, chief reporter for the Reuters Baghdad Arabic service; Andrei Bastunets, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Association of Journalists; and Nepalese media critic Pratyoush Onta.
All three exemplify the risks journalists in their respective countries take to report the news.
Make the time to observe World Press Freedom Day this year. Join in the conversation.
