With the largest database of local businesses in the UK, Yell is excited to announce availability of its app on Apple Watch. Yell, a leading provider of digital marketing solutions and local search, now makes it possible for consumers to select businesses and services in their area by simply speaking a request using Siri on Apple Watch.

The fabric of UK high streets – restaurants, takeaways, pubs and hairdressers – now accessible through the newest wearable technology

Apple Watch wearers can undertake a voice search under any classification in a location, asking the device for instance to “Search for Dentists” or “Search for Beauty Salons in Manchester”. And through the Yell app, the innovative wrist device offers further detail such as opening times, star rating scores and images of selected premises such as restaurants, takeaways and pubs.

With Yell’s iPhone app for Yell.com, its leading UK online business directory, [i]  now compatible with the latest Apple device, wearers of the watch have access to a pool comprising more than 2.7 million businesses listed on Yell.com and its supporting mobile apps [ii].

Caroline Lavelle, Chief Digital Officer at Yell, said: “This is a very exciting development for Yell and in line with its track record of ensuring we harness the very latest in digital technology so that our local businesses are found and chosen by consumers whenever they have a need and whatever the circumstances.”

The default setting for the Yell app also offers users a choice of four quick search icons displayed on the face of Apple Watch, representing the most popular searches of Yell.com by iPhone – Restaurants, Takeaways, Pubs and Hairdressers.

But users can upload alternative search classification icons via the Yell app. These include, for example, Supermarkets, Hotels, Pharmacies, and Garages, so that users can personalise their device screens to suit their search habits.

The Yell app returns a list of up to 20 results for each search, and additional key information on premise opening hours, a histogram showing the average star review and images of individual premises. Users can find their selected destination on Apple Map displayed on Apple Watch and be guided by device vibrations indicating left and right turns.

A “Handoff” facility enables users searching for businesses and services to switch from Apple Watch to other Apple devices such as an iPhone or iPad without interrupting the search. An Apple Watch “Glances” option enables users to see the last business that they viewed.
